Wednesday of the Second Week of Lent
Jer. 18:18-20 | Ps. 31:5-6, 14-16 | Mt. 20:17-28
Jeremiah seems to be the object of cruelty from the Israelites. He cries out to God to hear his plea and to save him from his enemies’ hands. In some way, he is giving us a preview of how Jesus, the Great Prophet, was to be treated. Jesus tells his disciples exactly how he will be treated by the leaders of the Jews and also by the Romans. Jesus reminds the apostles that the call of the disciple is to be a servant. They, and we, are called to realize that we are to serve others and be willing to give up our lives for the sake of others.
How will you serve others today? How will you respond to the cry of those with whom you work? Will you help defend them or will you join in the evil talk? How will you help those who are hungry today? Find some way to be of service to others.
