Acts 16:22-34 | Ps. 138:1-3, 7-8 | Jn. 16:5-11
Jesus continues to speak to His apostles and to teach them about His departure. Jesus tells them that if He does not go away, then the Advocate, (the Holy Spirit), will not be able to come. When the Holy Spirit comes, He will prove the world wrong about sin, righteousness and judgment. What a great gift we have been given through our Baptism and Confirmation! Jesus invites us to surrender to the Holy Spirit who will teach us how to live every minute of our day. We are called to remember that this Holy Spirit is within us to guide and direct our lives. Let us give everything to God. The Acts remind us of this when we see Paul and Silas acting through the Holy Spirit. They are stripped of their clothing, beaten and imprisoned because of what they have done. Despite their being in jail, the Holy Spirit comes to them and releases them. Because they do not run away, they convert the jailor. The good deeds which they are doing convert the jailor and his family.
Try to look at your good deeds. Do you allow the Holy Spirit to act through you? Who might be in need of your help? Go out to them today.
