Jos. 24:14-29 | Ps. 16:1-2, 5, 7-8, 11 | Mt. 19:13-15
Joshua is calling the Israelites to make a choice. Will they follow Yahweh or the foreign gods of the people through whose land they crossed? He, Joshua, has made the choice. There is one and only one true God whom he and his family will serve.
Jesus is preaching, and little children are coming to him. The apostles are trying to protect Jesus from being disturbed by them. Jesus tells them to let the children come to Him. Those who are like the children will enter the kingdom. What does Jesus mean? Those who are open, trusting, wanting to hear about God, having no barriers to hearing God’s word, these are the people who will enter heaven. These are the same qualities that Joshua is trying to influence the Israelites to develop. We all need to have these qualities if God is going to be a part of our lives. We must be open to God’s Spirit to do great things in us.
