Is. 56:1, 6-7 | Ps. 67:2-3, 5, 6, 8 | Rom. 11:13-15, 29-32| Mt. 15:21-28
The scriptures all refer to the Jewish people and their call to be the chosen people. The call given to them fell on deaf ears in many cases; and, so, God gave the call to the rest of the world, known as Gentiles. The first reading tells us that all who keep God’s Word and love God will be blessed. Paul tries to make his fellow Jews jealous by telling them that the Gentiles have received God’s mercy through Jesus.
Jesus seems to be harsh with the Canaanite woman, a gentile. When this woman shows that she is willing to become lowly in order to save her child, Jesus does a turnaround. Because of the woman’s faith, Jesus cures her daughter.
We are called to faith. We are called to listen to God’s Word and to live that Word. Doing so, we will receive God’s blessings in abundance. Are you willing to do what is necessary in order to follow Jesus Call? When do you refuse to live according to the Christian Way of life? Ask Jesus for the grace to be as open as the Canaanite woman. Respond to Jesus with love.
