Is. 22:19-23 | Ps. 138:1-3, 6, 8 | Rom. 11:33-36 | Mt. 16:13-20
Jesus is in a quizzical mood. He asks the disciples: “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” This same question is asked of us. Who do you say that God is? Each of us must come to a point where we can say who God is, who Jesus is. We cannot respond from what others have told us, only what we have experienced. Peter’s response is immediate and on the mark: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Paul has a different response in the second reading: “How inscrutable are His judgments and how unsearchable His ways..... To Him be glory forever.” This is really a hymn of praise. God wants an intimate relationship with each of us.
Take time to be in God’s presence. Be still, be quiet, contemplate and allow God to touch your heart. What does God wish to bestow on You? How do you respond? Be sure to spend some time each day with God.
