Gn. 32:23-33 | Ps. 17:1-3, 6-8, 15 | Mt.9:32-38
Jacob is seen wrestling with God and was not struck down for it. We sometimes struggle with God; and, we need to be honest when we pray. We will not be struck down either. God wants us to confide in Him. The Gospel relates the events of Jesus curing the mute, demoniacs, and all kinds of diseases and illnesses. Jesus feels great compassion for the people, because they are like sheep without a shepherd. Jesus recognizes that there is much to do and many in need. He invites us to pray for shepherds that others will follow in His footsteps and bring compassion to those in need. We may, likewise, be the shepherds who are called to be present to those who cross our paths daily.
Take time to reflect on all the people of our world who are suffering from disease, injustices, lack of food, clothing, shelter, etc. How can you shepherd these people? Ask God for an increase of vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
