Gn. 15:1-12, 17-18 | Ps. 105:1-4, 6-9 | Mt. 7:15-20

Abram calls out to God to hear his prayer.  Abram has been without an heir for many years.  God promises that he will have a child.  God also shows Abram the land that will become his.  Abram asks for a sign.  God gives the sign when he causes a fire to consume the offering which Abram made.  Abram gives thanks to God for God’s faithfulness.

Jesus reminds us to watch out for false prophets who come to teach us things that are against God.  Jesus teaches us that we can recognize a false prophet from the works that result from him.  Those who bear good fruit have to be good.  Those who bear bad fruit are false prophets.  Abram is a good prophet.  We have had many people throughout the ages who bore good fruit.  Some of these include Francis of Assisi, Mahatma Gandhi, and Pope John XXIII.  There are those whom we could name who have born bad fruit. 

We are called to look at our lives and see where/when we have borne good fruit and when we may have borne bad fruit.  Resolve to always strive to bear good fruit.  Ask God to teach you how to be a prophet who brings Good News to those with whom you come in contact.  Ask for help to change areas in your life which need to be changed.
