1Thes. 5:1-6, 9-11 | Ps. 27:1, 4, 13-14 | Lk. 4:31-37
Paul calls us to be awake so that when our time on earth comes to an end we will not be found wanting. Jesus leaves Nazareth and goes to Capernaum where He teaches the people with the same authority as He did in Nazareth. However, the people are not awake. They are not looking for someone else. They hear Jesus’ words and are called to respond. This is why the man who is possessed can identify Jesus as the holy one of God. Jesus expels the demon and the man is healed. Thus we are called to have an openness to be able to see the great deeds that God does for us. How many times are we asleep as God enters our lives through the kindness, love, and concern of others or through the beauty of nature?
Take time today to see how many good things have happened for you. Don’t look for big things only. Open your eyes to the small and gentle ways of God. Be ready for a surprise.
