Feast of St. Leo the Great
Readings: Titus 2:1-8, 11-14 | Ps. 37:3-4, 18, 23, 27, 29 | Lk. 17:7-10
Paul seems to be continuing the theme of acting according to God’s ways. He tells us to teach what is of sound doctrine. He also tells us that we don’t have to worry about doing this on our own. God has given us the grace to do so. God has granted us salvation through Jesus Christ. Relying on Christ we will have the grace to remain steadfast and to overcome our weaknesses. Jesus also reminds us that we should not expect any reward for doing what we are called to do. Since we are the children of God, we should live and act as God’s children out of that fact. When we do, we have acted out of humility knowing that it is God who has gifted us with all we need. It is God who strengthened us to act in His name and, as such, we do not deserve any credit for what we have accomplished.
Ask God for the grace to live in a manner befitting God. Look to see if there are ways in which you can grow in your love and service of God. Ask for the help you need to do so. Check at the end of the day to see if you have done so. Give thanks to God for those times you were successful. Resolve to start over again tomorrow.
