Saturday of the Thirty Second Week in Ordinary Time

Readings: 3 John 5-8 | Ps. 112:1-6 | Lk. 18:1-8

John invites us to look at our love for God’s people. He continues yesterday’s theme and calls us to support all who have come to us out of love for God. Jesus speaks of love and faithfulness. We hear about the unjust judge who finally gives in the requests of the widow for justice not because it was the right thing to do but because the widow persisted in coming to him. Jesus tells us that God, who is just, will respond to our prayers. God asks that we come to God with a spirit of faith and love. Our love for God will enable us to remain faithful to our requests.

Do you believe that God will respond to your prayer? Why or why not? Do you expect an answer immediately? Do you expect the answer to be the way you want it? Perhaps God is calling us to trust that the answer may come in a different form than the one we want. Are you willing to wait and continue to request as the widow in today’s Gospel? Spend time reflecting on these questions and talk to God about your response.
