The Dedication of the Basilicas of Sts. Peter and Paul
Rev. 10:8-11 | Ps. 119:14, 24, 72, 103, 111, 131 | Lk. 19:45-48
Jesus goes to Jerusalem. He enters the Temple and finds many merchants buying and selling goods. Jesus is angry because these people have made a mockery of God’s house. He overturns the merchants’ tables and drives them out. Because he has done such a deed to remind all of them about what the temple was built for, He is hated more by the Pharisees who have allowed this action to continue. This is one more deed that the Pharisees will use to justify crucifying Jesus. We are reminded that the Church is God’s house. We are called to respect our churches and to use them in such a way that they will bring others to Christ.
Consider your respect for the church. Are you careful about the manner in which you act in the church? Do you try to teach your children how to be respectful in the church? Take time also to consider how you respect your own body as the temple of the Holy Spirit.
