Rev. 14:1-3, 4b-5 | Ps. 24:1-6 | Lk. 21:1-4
Luke refers to a quality needed to be a member of God’s kingdom which is that of generosity. We heard a similar Gospel reading from Mark two weeks ago. Jesus is concerned about one thing which is the quality of one’s service and gifting. Jesus is not at all concerned about the quantity given. If I have a million dollars and give only two cents to the Church then I do not have the real meaning of giving. If I have two cents and give the two cents, to the Church, then I have given in abundance and with great trust that God will provide for me. Truly, this person will be counted among the blessed in heaven. More importantly, the quality that is needed here is the quality of our love for God. Do we love because we know the gift of God’s love for us? Do we love because we want to be rewarded? Do we love simply because we have been loved infinitely? Perhaps, this latter is the reason why the woman could so easily give her two coins.
Today, consider your love for God. Do you allow God to love you? Do you accept God’s love for you? Take time to allow God to show you His love. Respond with love.
