Is. 4:2-6 | Ps. 122:1-9 | Mt. 8:5-11
Isaiah tells us that when the day of the Lord comes, there will be peace and great joy. God will provide protection from rain, storm and heat. The Gospel relays the story of the Centurion who asks Jesus to heal his slave. Jesus invites him to show the way. The Centurion, filled with faith, tells Jesus he is not worthy for Him to enter his home: “Just say the word and his slave will be healed.” This is what Isaiah is referring to as the day of the Lord. Jesus tells us that He has not seen such faith in all of Israel. He continues to tell us that it is this type of person who will enter the Kingdom before those who expect and act as if it will be handed to them.
Jesus asks us to place genuine faith in Him. When we do so, when we trust, marvelous things will happen for us. God’s invitation is for everyone. Those who respond generously will know God’s joy, peace, and happiness in abundance. Take time to reflect on the quality of your faith and trust in God. Ask God to help you become stronger in this way.
