Familiarity with the Lord

HOMILY OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS ("Familiarity with the Lord") The disciples were fishermen: indeed, Jesus had called them when [...]

Feast of St. Therese of the Child Jesus

Bar. 1:15-22 | Ps. 79:1-5, 8–9 | Lk 10:13-16

Both readings remind us that we are sinners who have decided to do things our way rather than follow God.  Baruch is praying for the people of Israel and imploring God to forgive them.  Jesus is continuing His talk to the disciples.  He reminds them that those who reject them will receive worse punishment than the people of Sodom and Gomorah. The people of Tyre and Sidon will also be forgiven more than those who reject Jesus’ disciples.  Why is this?  Because those who keep the Word of God and have seen evidence of God’s workings, have received more than those who have only heard about God.

Once again we observe the call to listen, to see, to respond, to evangelize.  We have experienced Jesus and thus must go out and bring this great gift to others.  Doing so, we will share in the kingdom of God.
