Feast of St. Therese of the Child Jesus
Job 19:21-27 | Ps. 27:7-9, 13-14 | Lk. 10:1-12
Job is responding to the taunts of the men who are trying to get him to admit that he is being punished by God because of great sins. Job responds that this is not so and that God will vindicate him. Jesus is sending the disciples out to preach to the people in all the towns that He wants to visit. Jesus tells them to preach His word. If the people do not accept them, they should shake the dust off their feet and move on. If the people do listen to them they should be gracious and accept whatever food and shelter they are willing to share with them. When we do God’s work, bring Christ to those we live and work with, we should understand that some will accept what we bring and others will not. We should continue to go out to others if some reject us. God will provide for us and will gift us to continue to live as God has taught us. God will also vindicate us if we are accused as Job was.
Ask God for the grace to remain faithful to the call to follow Christ and bring His word to others. Ask for the grace to do so without looking for praise or reward.
