Familiarity with the Lord

HOMILY OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS ("Familiarity with the Lord") The disciples were fishermen: indeed, Jesus had called them when [...]

Feast of St. Paul of the Cross

Readings: Eph. 2:12-22 | Ps. 85:9-14 | Lk. 12:35-38

The readings continue the thoughts expressed yesterday. Jesus continues to remind us to be ready, to have our lamps lit waiting for the master to return from the wedding feast. Jesus tells us to be ready no matter what time, be it in the morning, noon, or night time of our day (24 hours) or of our lives. Paul continues to remind us that it was Christ who came and called all of us whether we were Jew or Gentile. In Christ and because of Christ, there can be no distinction between people. That includes all of the various people who live today, whether we call them Christian, pagan, black, white, rich, poor, educated, uneducated, etc. Paul continues to remind us that it is in Christ that all are made whole and holy and are being made into a dwelling place for God. You and I are being made into a dwelling place for God! What a wonderful and awesome gift!

Take time to consider how you have responded to God’s call and grace. How have you responded to Christ? How much time have you given Jesus to allow this project of becoming a dwelling place for God to become a reality? What will you do about this?
