Sir.35:12-14,16-18 | Ps.34:2-3, 17-19, 23 | 2 T4:6-8,16-18 | Lk 18:9-14
Jesus reminds the people that they know how to interpret what kind of weather is coming by knowing where or in which direction the wind is blowing. He calls us to task for not knowing how to interpret what is happening spiritually. The signs are here but because we are too busy we fail to notice that we are going through a time of drought or a time of blessing. The signs are present and we have the gift of the Holy Spirit to enable us to understand what is happening. Jesus also tells us that we should settle our difficulties with others without bringing them to court. We know the steps to forgiveness and healing. What we need to do is forgive. Paul picks up on this theme in his letter to the Ephesians. He reminds us that we have been called to live a life worthy of the calling, to bear all with humility and gentleness, patience and dealing with one another in love. Paul also reminds us that there is “One Lord, one Father and God over all, in all, and through all.”
Consider your spiritual life. What are the signs that you receive when you are in communion with God? What are the signs that you receive when you are not in communion with God? How can you remind yourself about these signs in times of trial? How can you live your life so that all see that you are united to God?
