Feast of Sts. Simon and Jude, Apostles
Readings: Eph. 2:19-22 | Ps. 19:2-5 | Lk. 6:12-16
Today is the feast of Sts. Simon and Jude, apostles. The Gospel tells us about Christ choosing the twelve to follow him. Jesus does so after he spent time with God in prayer. He did not go out to choose these followers without the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. This is a way for us to develop our spiritual lives. We are called to follow Christ’s example and be sure to spend time in prayer asking the Holy Spirit to be with us as we make decisions. Paul likewise reminds us that we are dwelling places for God. We are called to live in a manner that is worthy of this dwelling.
As you go about your day today, ask the Holy Spirit to give you direction to live according to God’s way. Ask God to help you make decisions and act with and out of love. At the end of the day, look it over to see how you did. Give thanks for all the times you acted in God’s way. Ask forgiveness for the times you failed. Make a resolution to start fresh tomorrow.
