Readings: Deut. 30:15-20 | Ps. 1:1-4, 6 | Lk. 9:22-25
Both readings call us to walk in the way of God. They are inviting us to be attentive to our choices. They are also calling us to live and grow in love with God. The choices we make in life are motivated by the things that are important to us, the things we love. If we love God with all our being then we will make choices that lead us to God and to life here and hereafter with God. There are many things that catch our attention and draw us to spend time, energy, and money on them. If these things bring us to God, they are good choices. If they do not then we are making poor choices. Jesus invites us to take up our cross and follow him. The cross is not necessarily something large. It is, however, the cross of refusing things that lead us away from God.
Spend time today in prayer asking God to lead you to develop a relationship with God. Ask Jesus for the grace to see what will lead you to Him and what will lead you away from Him. Ask Jesus for the grace to choose what will lead you to Him.
