Looking for a way to spend time in prayer?

Would You Like to Get Closer to God?

We extend this invitation to spend a few minutes each day reading the scriptures for the day, and then take a moment to read and pray with these daily reflections by Sr. Beatrice Caulson, our Director of Religious Education.

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Readings: 1 Sm. 3: 3b-10, 19 | Ps. 40: 2, 4, 7-10 | 1 Cor 6: 13c-15a, 17-20 | Jn. 1: 35-42

Paul in his letter to the Corinthians reminds us that it is most important to live out of a deep-felt conviction that we belong to God. We are also reminded that we house the Holy Spirit who always directs us to listen to God. Samuel is a prime example of one who heard the Spirit of God calling him. After he is directed by others, he learns how to respond to the call of God and that is by readily responding: “Here I am.” The disciples of John are told to follow Jesus, the Lamb of God. They likewise hear the call and respond by following Christ. We are invited each day to spend time with Christ. Doing so, we will be invited to follow Christ in our teaching, leading, organizing, refurbishing, etc. Christ invites us to follow fully, with all of our being.

As we begin the Ordinary Time of life, we are reminded that it is not an ordinary task to bring the word of Christ to others.

Pause to reflect on how you carry out the Word of God to your family, your friends, your co-workers. Decide to do better tomorrow.
