Friday of the Twenty Fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Readings: 1Cor. 15:12-20 | Ps. 17:1, 6-7, 8b, 15 | Lk. 8:1-3

The passage from the Gospel of Luke for today is very short. It’s message is that of ministry. Jesus was a man about a mission. He had untold energy and was dedicated to carrying out the task given Him by God. Yet, Jesus did not go it alone. He brought His twelve apostles and many women who had been cured by Him to the Father. Jesus knew that he needed to mentor those who would come after Him. He also knew that they would need others. Thus the group went with Him. Notice that some of the women who were with him were healed by Jesus. Their response to this gift of healing was to follow Him and minister to His needs. This calls us to look at what our response to Jesus is. Do you give thanks for all that has been given to you by following in Christ’s footsteps and helping those who come into your path? Perhaps Christ is inviting you to come closer to Him… Will you respond positively?

Today, think about Christ’s ministry to the people. Consider how he went out to others in need and lovingly brought them to God. Will you walk with Christ today and bring God’s love to all you meet? How will you minister today?
