Feast of Sts. Andrew Kim and Paul Chong Ha-sang and Companions
Prv. 21:1-6, 10-13 | Ps. 119:1, 27, 30, 34-35, 44 | Lk. 8:19-21
Jesus tells us today that His Mother and brothers are those who hear the Word of God and do it. Proverbs tells us a portion of that Word which is to do what is just and right. This is what God desires more than any sacrifice we perform. Why? Because many times making a sacrifice is something we choose and therefore brings joy to us. What God wants is that we see what is the just thing to do and do it. Many times this requires more from us and the result is that others benefit from our actions. God has called us to be mindful of those who are in need and to go out to help them. This is what Jesus means when He talks about His Mother. Mary was always doing precisely this, and her life is certainly one of kindness and justice towards the poor.
Think of the last time you were called to help those who are poor. What action did you take? How often have you taken action in regard to the poor by writing to your congressman? Take time today to do something to help bring about justice for the poor.
