Feast of St. Gregory the Great

Col. 1:15-20 | Ps. 100:1-5 | Lk. 5:33-39

The author of Colossians conveys a beautiful description of Jesus.  This is one of those passages that could be contemplated over and over again without exhausting its message.  Having read this description, one hears the Gospel with new ears.  How is it possible for the Pharisees to criticize Jesus so easily.  Perhaps it is because they have refused to put new wine in new wine skins.  Perhaps it is because they refused to hear with new ears.  We are capable of responding in the same manner as the Pharisees today.  What we are asked to do is to put on new wine skins.

Jesus’ message is quite simple in many ways.  We will only be able to hear and respond to it if we have the new ears, new skin to do so.  Take time to be with Jesus.  Contemplate His Words in today’s Gospel.  Ask for what you need in order to hear His Word.
