The Gospel about the missioning of the seventy-two disciples is most appropriate for today. Jesus sends these disciples in twos to preach the Word. He sends them with very little traveling gear and without degrees. Jesus tells them to stay wherever they are welcomed. When St. Francis established his order of Franciscans he required that they travel in two’s and to do so without money, goods, etc. He asked his brothers to go out and spread the Good News with joy and cheerfulness and to accept hospitality as they were invited. Francis heard the call of Christ and was not afraid to follow.
Spend time reflectively today. How is Christ calling you to follow Him in spreading the Good News? Perhaps you are simply being asked to bring Christ’s peace and joy to your family, your friends, and your co-workers.
