Friday of the Twenty-Second Week in Ordinary Time
Readings: 1Cor. 4:1-5 | Ps. 37: 3-6, 27-28, 39-40 | Lk. 5:33-39
Paul teaches us that we should not make judging others one of our past times. Rather, Paul tells us that what is important is that we live our lives in such a way that God will judge us as one of God’s own. This same message is part of the Gospel. The Pharisees seem to have made a pastime of judging everyone. They criticize Jesus because His apostles do not fast. Jesus teaches us that it is important to do what needs to be done according to the times in which we live.
It is important to place new wine in new wineskins. Thus, we might ask ourselves: “Do I live today according to the Spirit of the Gospel or do I live it according to a rigid carrying out of the letter of the law?” Christ invites us to live in the freedom of God and the law.
